Rockwood's Respiratory Center specialists treat diseases of the lung that include chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, asthma, pneumonia and cancer.
Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) is a valuable tool for measuring the volume and speed of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. It helps our specialists screen for obstructive and restrictive diseases, monitor chronic conditions, and prescribe appropriate therapies.
Depending on the condition, therapies can include the use of bronchodilators that work by relaxing the muscles around the airways. Nebulizers, which use compressed air to administer liquids in the form of a fine mist to the airways, are commonly used to treat patients with severe asthma or COPD.
In addition to testing patients and helping with their education and disease management, our respiratory therapists work closely with patients to help them order and usie nebulizers and oxygen treatment at home.
