The History of Research at Rockwood Clinic

Research has always been an active area of interest among the Rockwood Clinic physicians, dating back to 1963 with Dr. Sam McIlvanie and his research studies in oncology chemotherapeutic agents.  In 1967, Dr. Rex Hoffmeister pioneered the use of Methotrexate in treating rheumatoid arthritis.  His early work and 15 years of research led to today’s standard use of Methotrexate.

The Rockwood Clinic Research Center was opened in October 1995 due to the increased interest in research by the clinic physicians and in an effort to provide clinical coordinating services.
