Type 1 Diabetes Natural History Study (CTNN)

You may be invited to participate in the screening phase of a clinical research study to evaluate blood relatives of individuals with Type 1 Diabetes.

The study is open to those who:

  • are aged 1 to 45 years and have a first degree relative with Type 1 Diabetes (siblings, offspring, and parents) OR
  • are aged 1 to 20 years and have second or third degree relatives with Type 1 Diabetes (nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, half siblings)

Screening consists of obtaining informed consent; contact, demographic, and family history information; and a blood draw. Participants are eligible for Baseline and Follow-up risk assessments if certain autoantibodies are positive. Those negative for autoantibodies may return for annual re-screening.

Screening participants will receive all blood tests at no cost. Baseline and Follow-up participants will receive all blood tests and glucose tolerance tests at no cost. Time and travel expenses will be compensated in Baseline and Follow-up phases only.
