Optometry
Rockwood Clinic optometrists specialize in the general health and correction of the eye. After performing complete eye examinations, they prescribe and fit corrective glasses and contact lenses. A recent advancement in contact lenses, called toric lenses, is of particular interest to patients with astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia. These lenses are made of the same materials as regular lenses, but are designed with different curves.
After examination, if special medical care is needed or surgery is indicated, patients are referred to the adjoining Rockwood Clinic Ophthalmology department.
Ophthalmology
Rockwood Clinic ophthalmologists provide comprehensive medical and surgical treatment for vision problems, injuries and diseases of the eye.
Advances in cataract and vision correction include no-stitch and small-incision cataract surgery. New multi-focal intraocular lenses (IOL) give patients the ability to focus on objects at more than one distance, reducing the need for glasses after surgery. New toric lens implants can correct astigmatism.
For those patients needing cornea transplants, a sutureless corneal transplant is offered.
Laser surgery is used for treatment of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and secondary cataracts.
Droopiness of the upper eyelids and turning in or out of the bottom lids can affect the vision and comfort of the eyes. Surgery is offered to correct these changes in the lids.
Comprehensive pediatric eye care including glasses, complete evaluation and treatment of amblyopia, strabismus, and surgical treatment of congenially plugged tear ducts is available.
